Description from the seller
Lauro Gregorio. Magni Divinique Prophetae beati Ioannis Ioachim abbatis Vaticiniorum. Naples, Novello De Bonis, 1660. First Edition. Irretrievably rare original edition of the famous work on the visions and prophetic gifts of the celebrated medieval abbot Joachim of Fiore. The work aims to demonstrate the truth of the visions and prophetic gifts of the abbot, defending his memory from charges of heresy and reproduces the famous Vaticinia on the Popes attributed to the visions of the Calabrian abbot. Binding in antique-style cardboard. Title on a gold-inlaid panel on the spine. Large heraldic coat of arms engraved on the frontispiece. Illustrated by 30 large and beautiful engravings relating to the famous prophecies concerning the future destinies of the popes, accompanied by captions and the comments of Gregorio Lauro. A copy widely and uniformly worm-eaten: holes often outside the printing area, and in some cases invading the text. The engravings, however, are all intact and without any damage. Dimensions 32 x 20 cm, 8 unnumbered preliminary pages, 148. Good condition.
