Description from the seller
Votive stupa (Chaitya) with the four directional Buddhas (Tathagatas)
Nepal (Kathmandu Valley)
Bronze with brown patina and golden highlights.
Height: 13 cm x 8 x 8 cm
Architectural miniature in bronze representing a votive stupa resting on a square base. The plinth is adorned with a relief frieze of devotees and flanked by four miniature stupas at the corners. A spout in the shape of a makara emerges on one side for ritual libations. At the center, on a double lotus base (padmapitha), the dome (anda) is carved with four niches housing the Wisdom Buddhas (Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha and Amoghasiddhi) in their respective mudras. The ensemble is crowned by a geometrized harmika and a conical spire with thirteen discs (chatravali) symbolizing the Buddhist heavens.
Conservation status: Fine used condition, wear from handling and devotion softening the reliefs, traces of ritual sediments in the hollows. Good condition for its age.
Provenance: Kanaka The Collection
