Description from the seller
Dusk, 2025
Mixed media on canvas, 73 × 55 cm
Signed (lower right)
Includes certificate of authenticity issued and signed by the artist
In “Dusk,” Jose Manuel Mayo Peña captures the exact moment when the day gives itself to the fire. This work does not depict a sunset landscape: it feels it and transmits it in a pure state. The intense reds, oranges, and yellows explode with a violence almost violent, as if light itself were burning before disappearing.
Broad brushstrokes, streams of color, and splashes create a sense of constant movement and overflowing energy. The earthy background and the darker areas at the bottom contrast with the upper luminosity, generating an atmosphere of transition, of ending and of rebirth at the same time. It is the moment where beauty and destruction meet.
This painting evokes deep feelings of passion, intensity, and melancholy. Color does not decorate: it burns, beats, and consumes. It conveys that universal sensation of the sunset: ephemeral beauty, the strength of the light fading, and the emotion that arises when something ends. It is a work that speaks of the passage of time, inner fire, and that strange peace that can be found in the chaos of color.
Mayo Peña achieves with “Dusk” a piece of great emotional charge and visual presence. It is not a calm work; it is a work that confronts, moves, and leaves a lasting mark. Ideal for spaces where one seeks art that is not only looked at but felt.
A contemporary piece of high emotional impact, perfect for collectors who value expressive power, color intensity, and a image’s ability to generate a nearly physical experience.
