There is a particular kind of tension in this piece — between geometry and instinct, between stillness and the feeling that it is about to move.
Obsidian Predator is a large-format, fully handcrafted sculpture built entirely by hand over multiple weeks. The structure was raised facet by facet, each geometric plane deliberately cut, shaped, and assembled to follow the musculature of a panther in full hunt. The surface was sealed under four successive coats of industrial-grade epoxy resin, each layer cured individually to build depth and permanence. Black mineral-grade glitter was suspended directly within the resin matrix — not applied on top — giving the surface its signature quality: matte obsidian in low light, alive with starfield shimmer under direct illumination. The interior was filled and consolidated with a high-density composite, giving the piece genuine mass. This is not a hollow object. Finished with faceted green glass eyes and a brushed-gold spiked collar — a deliberate tension between wilderness and luxury, between predator and possession.
Placement & scale:
At 93 cm in length, Obsidian Predator commands any surface it occupies. Designed for a collector's home, a design studio, a hotel lobby, or a gallery display — equally at home on a low console table, a fireplace mantel, or a dedicated pedestal. The deep black finish and geometric faceting integrate naturally with both minimalist interiors and maximalist, luxury-driven spaces.
About the artist:
Obsidian Predator is a work by Corina Dinu, a Romanian artist born in 1979 with formal training in fine arts and design, including studies at Istituto Marangoni. Driven by a lifelong passion for beauty in all its forms, Corina works across painting, sculpture, and fashion — creating objects that are at once technically demanding and visually immediate. This sculpture belongs to her three-dimensional practice: large-format, handbuilt works that occupy the space between fine art, collectible design, and the decorative arts. For Corina, beauty is not a style — it is a discipline.
Edition: Unique — 1/1. Signed.
