Antique Portuguese Silver Toothpick Holder – Tulip Flower / Naturalistic Motif (1887-1937)
A rare and charming antique Portuguese silver toothpick holder (paliteiro), dating from the 1887-1937 period. A highly collectible piece with great decorative appeal.
The piece stands on a circular domed base, decorated with a textured hammered finish on top and resting on three stylized scroll feet. From the centre emerges a realistic naturalistic composition, featuring long arched leaves and a central stem that culminates in a magnificent flower bud (tulip style), whose closed petals form the perfect holder for toothpicks. It also features a second, thinner stem with a small secondary bud.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. It displays a beautiful natural patina, with a perfectly firm structure and no deformations.
Period/Origin: Portugal assay mark (1887-1937), 833/000, and same date marker's mark.
