Description from the seller
This work is a mold of my bust cast in polyurethane foam and covered with a veil of black fabric. It references Italian sculpture from the late 18th century. These works, often in marble, depict fully veiled female bodies with startling precision.
An artwork is, by essence, a vanity. It reflects the artist’s desire to objectify themselves in order to survive time and responds to the vanity of the demiurge artist’s idea. Memory is not fixed; it remains to come, never anchoring itself in an infinity. Its disappearance is its only recourse.
This work is to be hung on the wall.
International artist whose work rests on the dichotomy that exists between memory and oblivion. Memory, in my view, is the essential element that connects our body to the world. However, while our culture strives to engrave history with a chisel, I strive to inhibit, to deconstruct, even to erase my own memory. A vast undertaking, the exercise of forgetting...
The body is only the support for this memory of which it is dependent, even relies on. It builds it, shapes it, and transforms it. And if mnemonic comes from the Greek meaning the uplifting of memory, for my part I hunt it to better part from it."
