Description from the seller
The Mountain Samurai (Yama no Samurai) - UNIQUE WORK
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan explores a radically different aesthetic, abandoning the flat pop colors of ukiyo-e for the melancholic, textured fluidity of watercolor. This unique print features the stoic profile of a samurai crowned with his traditional kabuto helmet, rendered through a striking double exposure technique that fuses man and the wild nature.
The visual poetry and depth of the composition reside in this masterful superimposition. Within the warrior's silhouette, a misty landscape takes shape: jagged mountain peaks and a dense conifer forest that seem to rise organically from his armor. The use of watercolor effects, with deep indigo washes, vanishing drips, and sepia and ochre tones, reinforces the raw and spiritual aspect of the work. The background, imitating old parchment, crumpled and patinated by time, gives the whole piece the authenticity of a travel notebook or an ancient scroll.
The impact of the composition is enhanced by the harmony of contrasts between the martial strength of the subject and the delicate, unpredictable nature of water and pigments. It is a true meditation on the warrior's soul (the bushido), deeply rooted in its territory. The contrast between the suggested rigidity of the armor and the diffuse spread of the inks creates a captivating visual dynamic, honoring the wabi-sabi spirit of imperfect and impermanent beauty.
An introspective piece, at once raw, elegant, and poetic, ideal for bringing a zen, organic, and highly graphic touch to a design-forward, contemporary interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists working around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematographic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, raw art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
