Gil Huette (XX) - REVEIL (‘Awakening’)

A treasured item from my personal collection, purchased from a restaurant-owner friend in Montesquieu des Alberes, Languedoc, who had inherited it from his parents.
A remarkable wartime painting, 1941, from a time when France was under German occupation, a ray of optimism at a time when separation and loss were everyday commonplace events.
I know nothing about the painter, Gil Huette, but his composition and brushwork are skilled.
