Description from the seller

Unique and original work.

Artwork size on board: 30x40x1.5 cm.
White wooden-fiber frame included: 32x42x3 cm.

It will be carefully packed in a sturdy rigid cardboard box. The shipment can be tracked with a tracking number.

The works arise from an artisanal and experimental process that makes each board unique. The surface is carefully prepared and enhanced with natural papers chosen and textured inserts, creating an irregular, three-dimensional, richly textured base that enhances the board’s structure. This surface is then worked in an uneven manner using mixed media, in which water-soluble pastels play a central role, producing layering, translucencies and contrasts in dialogue with the underlying material. This series of works is made even more special by a particular technique developed by the artist: applying pencil shavings directly onto the board. These color fragments are integrated into the surface to create reliefs, chromatic vibrations, and an intense materiality that makes each board one-of-a-kind. In this way an equilibrium is created between technical control and spontaneity, marking the artist’s transition from a consolidated digital practice to a more tactile, artisanal, and deeply material approach.

Giulia Piras began her studies at the biological sciences faculty due to her interest in naturalist themes. However, she chose to switch course to the Academy of Fine Arts, where she had the opportunity to deepen and practice her passion for scientific illustration.
She continued her studies specializing in Illustration at ISIA Urbino. Today she lives in the Marche countryside, Italy, surrounded by the Apennines, oak forests and blooming meadows. She collaborates with publishing houses, magazines, companies and advertising agencies.
She was selected for the Renner Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2021 she won the “Digital Inclusion” competition organized by Posterheroes. In 2025 she was selected for the Annual of Image Authors and for the Bologna Ragazzi Award (BRAW) Amazing Bookshelf.

Color differences may depend on lighting conditions, monitor settings or the camera used. The actual color tones may therefore vary slightly from those seen on the screen.

Some images are photomontages created for purely illustrative purposes. The proportions and dimensions shown may not precisely reflect the actual artwork.
