Meiji-period Kutani porcelain decorative plate, 30 cm square and 4 cm deep, entirely hand-painted with a coastal scene of bijin and a girl, on the back signed with six red characters 'Kutani Kaneidō sei', in excellent vintage condition with minor wear from age; wooden stand not included.
Description from the seller
Refined and imposing Japanese decorative plate in Kutani style, dating from the Meiji era (1868-1912), entirely hand-painted with exceptional artisanal craftsmanship. The plate depicts a suggestive traditional outdoor scene: a group of elegant Japanese noblewomen (bijin) and a child stroll through a coastal landscape, framed by majestic sea pines, cherry blossoms, and mountains shaded in the background.
On the back, the plate bears the original six-character signature arranged in two columns in red underglaze: "九谷 金井堂 製" (Kutani Kanei-dō sei), which certifies production at the renowned Kanei-dō workshop, famous during the Meiji period for high-end export porcelain.
The item is in excellent vintage condition. It has no chips, hairlines, restorations, or cracks. Very slight and normal signs of wear from time on the gilding and enamel, attesting to its authenticity and age.
(Note: the wooden stand visible in the photo is not included in the sale).
