This is a preparatory work for the oil on canvas by DINET "Flute Player, around Laghouat, 1897" (46 x 72 cm) - see last photo for comparison.
PROVENANCE:
- Collection of the Orientalist painter Paul-Elie DUBOIS (1886-1949), then by descent.

Paul-Elie DUBOIS was a friend of Etienne DINET and his sister Jeanne, whom he knew in the 1920s.
We thank Mr. Koudir BENCHIKOU, specialist in Etienne DINET, author of the artist's catalog raisonné, who kindly confirmed the authenticity of the work.
Etienne DINET's works are exhibited in many museums (Narbonne, Reims, Pau, Algiers, Musée d'Orsay...) and can surpass 1 million euros at auction!!
