Lot of two old Romanian flags: a rare early communist-period flag with the original state emblem and RPR inscription, 93 × 142 cm, in good used condition, dating from before the 1965 name change; and a 1950 cotton/linen flag with a vertical blue–yellow–red tri-color, hemp/jute cord, very used with multiple damages.
Description from the seller
Lot of two old Romanian flags
1. A rare Romanian flag from the early communist period, featuring the original state coat of arms with the inscription RPR (Republica Populară Română).
The print on the flag is originally hand-painted from the period.
This type of flag was used before the name change to the Socialist Republic of Romania in 1965.
This flag dates from the period when Romania was a communist people's republic. The central emblem with the sun, mountains, trees/forest and ears of grain symbolises the socialist ideology and national identity of that era.
Notably, the coat of arms is completely intact. After the 1989 revolution, many flags had their arms removed, making complete specimens like this increasingly rare.
The flag is in good used condition
Size: 93 x 142 cm
2. Old Romanian flag made of cotton/linen – 1950
Authentic vertical tricolor of Romania (blue-yellow-red), made from three separately stitched fabric stripes.
The flag is made from a thin natural fiber blend of cotton and linen, with a simple fastening cord of hemp/jute. Dating from the 1950s.
The flag is in very used condition and has multiple damages. See photos.
