Description from the seller

BEYOND THE LIMIT is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado inspired by the aesthetics of classic science fiction, vintage space posters and mid-20th-century retrofuturist illustrations.

The work depicts an astronaut on a lunar surface surrounded by planets and celestial bodies, creating a scene that evokes exploration, mystery and the desire to transcend. The composition conveys a sense of adventure and discovery, connecting the vintage space imaginary with a contemporary and graphic visual language.

Flavia Delgado blends influences from pop art, classic comics and vintage editorial illustration, evoking the old illustrated covers and graphic advertisements from the 1950s and 1960s. The bold black lines, simplified shapes and strong contrasts recall the visual universe of the old science fiction posters and illustrated pulp novels.

The color palette, dominated by vibrant reds, deep blacks and electric blues, generates a dynamic and cinematic image. The astronaut, isolated against the vastness of space, functions as a symbol of ambition, curiosity and the human capacity to go beyond one’s own limits.

BEYOND THE LIMIT is a work that combines retrofuturist nostalgia, graphic design and adventurous spirit, bringing visual impact and contemporary personality to any space.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
