A refined Showa period four-panel Japanese folding screen finished with Kanazawa gold leaf and made in a full traditional mounting style. Its plain gold surface creates a dignified and luminous backdrop, allowing the subtle texture and reflective quality of the leaf to stand out beautifully.

Kanazawa gold leaf is one of Japan’s most representative traditional crafts, produced around Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture with a history of over 400 years. Skilled artisans repeatedly beat a small piece of gold alloy until it becomes an extremely thin sheet, allowing the brilliance of gold to be applied across broad decorative surfaces without losing its elegant glow.

The screen has a minimalist composition, framed by yellow patterned brocade borders and black lacquered wooden edging with metal fittings. This quiet design makes it highly versatile as a decorative backdrop for Japanese armour, dolls, Buddhist art, ceramics, or flower arrangements, while also working well as a refined interior accent.

The reverse side is finished in dark fabric, giving the screen a clean and restrained appearance from both sides. The original storage box is included, and its label notes “Kanazawa leaf” and “full traditional mounting”.

Overall good vintage condition with light age-related rubbing, some tarnish on the metal fittings, partial tears along the folds, and faint stains on the reverse. Please refer to the photos for details.
