A rare pair of hand-painted Rosenthal porcelain plaques by König (circa 1955), each 20 x 20 cm with 3 cm depth, in original wooden and plaster gilded frames, back marked with authentic Rosenthal branding.
Description from the seller
Rare Pair (Pendant) of Rosenthal Porcelain Plaques – Hand-Painted by König (circa 1955)
Splendid matching pair of porcelain plaques from the prestigious German manufacturer Rosenthal. Both works are entirely hand-painted (Handmalerei) and bear the autograph signature on the front by the renowned animal painter König, active in the mid-20th century.
The subjects depict two canine portraits executed with extraordinary classical realism and a vibrant expressiveness in the details of the eyes and fur, characteristic of the artist’s exemplary craftsmanship. The fur details are rendered with millimetric precision on a softly shaded background.
Authenticity: 100% guaranteed. The back of the plaques bears the original Rosenthal marks impressed and printed from the period, certifying authenticity and the handwork carried out in the factory laboratories.
Condition of the Porcelain: Excellent. The two plaques are perfectly intact, with no cracks, crazing, chipping, or restorations. The overglaze painting is vivid and well preserved.
Condition of the Frames: The porcelains are set in their original period frames made of wood and gilded plaster (ready to be hung). The frames show evident signs of aging and chipping on the plaster at the corners (clearly visible in the photos), structural defects that do not affect the integrity and value of the porcelain inside.
Additional details: On the back there is also the label of the historic German retailer of the period. A top-tier collectible lot.
