The work belongs to the school of figurative Realism of the Italian Twentieth Century.
This extraordinary still life stands out for its highly significant exhibition history. The work was presented at the exhibition “Carlo Socrate - Works from 1910 to 1946,” held at Palazzo Venezia, Rome, in 1988, and is published in full color on the official catalog of the show as no. 77; the original catalog will also be provided as a complimentary gift to the buyer.
In addition to this reference, there was an earlier exhibition appearance in the show “Capogrossi, Mafai, Melli, Omiccioli, Socrate. Artists in Rome in the 1940s and 1950s,” held at Galleria San Marco, Rome, in 1981. The double exhibition in Rome constitutes a guarantee of authenticity and prestige.
Carlo Socrate (Rome, 1889 – 1967) is a central figure of Roman painting in the twentieth century, tied to the atmosphere of the Roman School, where reality takes shape through matter, light, and painterly construction. In this context, “Rapanelli,” created in 1942, is a work of the highest quality: the color is rich, the material well worked, the volumes are constructed with confidence, and the light defines the objects with precision, making them solid and present. The result is a strong and immediate painting, highly convincing, which combines painting quality, balance, and great visual impact, with a direct appeal that is highly appreciated by collectors.
Carlo Socrate (Rome, 1889 – 1967) worked permanently in Rome, participating in the major national exhibitions of the Twentieth Century, including the Quadriennali (Quarters) of Rome. He developed an autonomous and recognizable research, attentive to the construction of form and the concrete rendering of objects. His still lifes, like this one, represent one of the most solid and appreciated cores of his production.
The buyer will receive the work in careful and sturdy packaging. Very fast shipping.
