Jean Ribière was a prominent French photojournalist of the 20th century, renowned for his humanitarian reporting on post-war France, rural life, popular traditions and the daily life of the French regions.
He began at the newspaper L’Indépendant des Pyrénées-Orientales in 1940 before co-founding with his wife Micheline Vialle the agency “Ribière Presse Photos.” Their reports were published in numerous international media such as Paris Match, L’Express, or the BBC.
Jean Ribière was also committed to defending photographers’ rights, notably within the A.N.J.R.P.C., alongside figures such as Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Raymond Depardon.
His photographic archive, preserved by his daughter Hélène Tabès, gathers around 120,000 photographic documents spanning the period 1941-1989.
