“Reflets d’une promenade”, a 1970–1980 oil painting by a Spanish school, Spain, 52 × 68 cm, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
A Spanish school work from the 20th century, depicting a lively urban scene with figures, carriages, and trees, resolved with a loose, luminous brushstroke and a clearly decorative character. The composition presents a wide avenue or square, possibly inspired by an urban historical environment, where the background architecture appears suggested through pale, vertical patches that add depth and atmosphere.
The work is framed within the Spanish 20th-century urban landscape painting, with a clear influence from late impressionism and decorative post-impressionism. The artist does not seek a meticulous description of the place, but the capture of a visual impression: light, the movement of the figures, reflections on the pavement, and the dynamic city atmosphere.
From a stylistic standpoint, a quick, thickly applied and vibrant brushstroke stands out, especially visible in the sky, the architecture, and the reflections on the ground. The figures and carriages appear treated in a synthetic way, through small touches of color that suggest movement and urban life. This way of resolving the scene connects with the tradition of urban-view painting inspired by impressionism, where the light effect and atmosphere prevail over descriptive detail.
The color palette combines whites, pale blues, greens, yellows, and ochres, with small reddish and dark touches in the figures and horses. The overall effect conveys luminosity, freshness, and breadth, reinforced by the treatment of reflections on the ground, which could suggest a wet surface or simply a pictorial play of light.
The composition has a strong scenographic sense: the line of trees on the right, the carriages and pedestrians in the foreground, and the blurred background architecture create an image of an elegant and lively city, close to the taste for strolling scenes, squares, and boulevards. Its aesthetic is especially decorative, with a modern and friendly finish typical of Spanish painting in the second half of the 20th century.
The condition can be appreciated in the photographs, which form part of the description. It is recommended to carefully review the images to assess the general state of the artwork and its frame.
It is framed with a decorative frame of great presence, with gilded moldings, dark areas, and a light mat, in keeping with the piece’s aesthetic. The frame is sent as a gift with the work.
A luminous and decorative piece, especially suitable for lovers of urban painting, Spanish landscape painting of the 20th century, and impressionist-inspired scenes with figures and carriages.
