Alfie Bekaert – XL Belgian Landscape Oil Painting in Gilt Frame, Maldegem School, 1970s
Large oil on canvas painting by Belgian landscape painter Alfie Bekaert, created during the 1970s. The composition presents an atmospheric countryside scene at dusk, with deep red and dark tonal skies, rural cottages, and tree silhouettes rendered in expressive brushwork. The painting is housed in an ornate gilt wooden frame that complements the dramatic palette.
Belgian origin.
Signed lower right “Alfie Bekaert.”
Oil on canvas.
1970s.
Alfie Bekaert was active in Belgium during the second half of the 20th century and is associated with the Maldegem artistic circle in East Flanders. His work focused primarily on traditional landscape painting, often depicting winter scenes, rural environments, and atmospheric natural settings using oil techniques on canvas or masonite.
This example reflects the decorative and atmospheric landscape tradition popular in Belgian interiors during the mid to late 20th century. The large dimensions, strong chromatic contrasts, and panoramic composition give the work substantial visual presence.
Condition is good overall with minor age-related wear. Slight paint loss and small surface imperfections are visible as shown in the photographs. The painting will be delivered exactly as photographed, therefore please examine all photos carefully.
Works connected to the Maldegem regional art scene remain appreciated for their traditional craftsmanship and recognizable Flemish landscape atmosphere.
