· The Jay Haide cello is handmade according to the Italian tradition; this instrument is crafted with the finest European woods.

-- The L'ancienne cello has been crafted by the Taller Artesanal de luthería, Música y Cuerda, and created by the famous and prestigious LUTHIER; Robert Louis Baille, located in SEVILLE. The aim is to offer an instrument easy to play and a magnificent sound, this is only possible with work, the result of experience and in-depth study of the construction of bowed instruments. With the best quality of aged woods and exact measurements, with the finest finishes and handcrafted varnish and polish adjustments; with perfect setup you achieve the best sound and ease of playing, for musicians who require the best tone quality. This setup is achieved by applying all the knowledge of the art of lutherie.
· The cello features a two-piece highly flame maple back with figured grain, a matching neck and scroll. The two-piece spruce top has a fine and wide grain. The oil varnish in a brown-orange color shows much patina. Equipped with ebony pegs and fingerboard. This instrument is quite striking in appearance and finish. The quality of the antiquities gives them a century-old look. This cello has a very focused, powerful sound and is an excellent instrument for the most advanced performer.

· For six years it has been the professional-grade main instrument of the Paco de Lucía music conservatory in Algeciras, and has been played at various events: Teatro Florida (Algeciras). Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo (San Roque). Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de La Línea (La Línea Concepción). Auditorio Conjunto Arqueológico de Baelo Claudia (Tarifa).

· Since its introduction, Violoncellos à l'ancienne have become the flagship of Jay Haide’s fleet. They are envied and copied by other manufacturers, but no matter how hard they have tried, none have come close to matching them. Some have even put fake labels from well-known French and Italian makers on the instruments and sold them at very inflated prices. One of our antique cellos even received in the early 20th century a certificate of authenticity from a well-known expert. Italian 19th-century cello with an insured valuation of $26,000.00! Because of this, each violin, viola, old cello and bass now has a series of marks inside and out to deter copiers.

· With use and playing, old and fine string instruments develop the patina of time over decades and centuries that master cellists have tried to emulate, even as far back as the late 17th century. By the mid-19th century, creators such as Jean Baptiste Vuillaume and Georges Chanot in Paris had developed a high degree of skill to recreate the effects of time and use in their cellos. Following that tradition. Each Jay Haide à l'ancienne is carefully and meticulously built and hand varnished to emulate the look of an antique Stradivari or Guarneri violin. First we recreate the color, texture, and patina of the gold base coat. We add our beautiful golden orange varnish in a pattern that simulates the wear and use found on great antique classical instruments. To do that, we have provided our luthiers with excellent knowledge of Old Italian and French so they can study them while they work. It is this attention to detail that has made our antique instruments sought after worldwide.
