Two bronze candlesticks from France, dating to 1930–1940, each 33 cm high, 23 cm wide and 23 cm deep, depicting a horseman on horseback with three symmetrical candle arms and a sculptural, classical design.
Description from the seller
They are two gilt-bronze candelabras from the first half of the 20th century that reinterpret classic imagery with a distinctly theatrical flair: each piece is organized around the figure of a horseman, modeled with energy and detail, as if frozen in mid-advance. That sculptural presence makes the candelabras into small domestic monuments, closer to decorative statuary than to a simple candle holder.
The bronze, worked with deep reliefs and dynamic curves, catches the light and multiplies it, creating warm flashes that enhance the horse's musculature, the rider's posture, and the vegetal and undulating motifs that rise toward the arms that hold the candles. The three upper arms, balanced and symmetrical, crown the composition with a solemn, almost ceremonial air.
They are pieces that speak to a historicist taste very typical of the era: objects designed to impress, to occupy a central place on a console, a fireplace, or a sideboard, combining craftsmanship, visual weight, and an epic romanticism that today is especially appealing.
Shipped with tracking and careful packaging.
