THOMAS KARSTEN
(* 1958 in Eisennach)

Karsten grew up in Leipzig. After working in other artistic fields, at the age of 21 he felt drawn to photography. In 1982 he left the GDR and worked as a freelance photographer and assistant to Stefan Moses in Munich.

Since 1983 he has worked for magazines and journals such as Stern, Art, Eltern, Nerve (New York), Capital. His first solo publication received the Kodak Photo Book Prize in 1988.

Thomas Karsten became internationally known primarily through his more than 20 photo books, the result of his work on various subjects of nude photography.

For several years now Thomas Karsten has also worked as a cinematographer for film productions, music videos and corporate films.

Thomas Karsten lives and works in Uffenheim near Würzburg.
