Description from the seller
French Art Deco Glass Plafonnier by Marcel Rossas ROS for Degue – Hydrangea Pattern – c. 1930
A beautiful and authentic French Art Deco "vasque" (pendant bowl) made of thick, press-molded glass, signed ROS. This signature belongs to the renowned Parisian decorator Marcel Rossas, who frequently collaborated with the prestigious Degué glassworks during the 1930s.
The bowl features a lush, high-relief decoration of three large clusters of stylized Hydrangeas. The floral motifs are set against a sophisticated geometric "honeycomb" or "scales" background, typical of the era's transition from organic to linear forms. The glass is acid-etched to a satin finish on the exterior, while the raised floral details retain a soft sheen to capture and diffuse light elegantly.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 35 cm
Total Height: Approximately 75 cm (including chains and canopy)
The glass bowl is in very good vintage condition, with no major cracks to the body. The signature "Ros" is clearly visible in relief within the glass.
Regarding the suspension system: the piece is currently fitted with a vintage metal mount consisting of three chains, a central socket, and a fluted canopy. While the mounting is perfectly functional and period-appropriate in style, it is likely a later vintage replacement or an assembly of period components, as was common during the mid-20th century to adapt these pieces to different interior heights. The metal shows a natural aged patina, adding to its authentic character.
