Hello! If you are looking for a unique and unconventional painting created with a noble technique and you feel drawn to the mysterious and dignified world of nature, you’re in the right place. I am an experienced artist and painter from Poland. I am strongly inspired by Japanese aesthetics and natural history illustrations from ancient eras. My paintings fit perfectly not only in private interiors but also in spaces such as boutique hotels, cafes, offices, beauty clinics, or studios. With every work I attach a certificate of authenticity.
My direct inspiration is the Japanese nihonga technique. The paintings are made on cotton canvas or paper. I grind the paints by hand from Japanese mineral pigments suihi and homemade glue. I use Asian-style brushes for application, commonly associated with calligraphy. The white paint comes from gofun — a Japanese oyster-shell powder. I also paint sumi ink based on water. The gold-toned fragments in my works are shingled metal — metal leaf imitating gold. These metallic elements beautifully reflect light, even on cloudy days, and make the painting look slightly different from every angle.
The painting depicts orchids with winding roots, whose lush, dark green leaves and pink-white flowers spread freely on a golden background decorated with a rhythmic, geometric pattern reminiscent of fabric or stained glass. The juxtaposition of the organic, untamed nature of the plant with the precisely designed background ornament creates tension between vitality and decorative order.
Hanna Werkowicz (born 1986, Warsaw) is a graduate of the National Academy of Theatre in Warsaw and a makeup school. She has also worked as an illustrator, a creator of props for advertising and film, and has created about 500 artistic objects for clients around the world. Her main inspirations are Japanese aesthetics and old natural illustrations, and animals and plants lie at the center of her painting interests. In her works, beyond the external form, the artist aims to capture the spirit of the plant or animal, paying tribute to the pristine beauty of nature. Her paintings achieve a balance between decorative form and the raw pigment, giving them a calm, contemplative character.
