Universal Genève chronograph Jumbo, 36 mm case in 18k gold, white dial, leather strap, manual-wind Cal. 285 movement, original box included, in very good condition with minimal signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Universal Genève chronograph from the 40s. The absence of the "Uni-Compax" inscription on the dial is common in versions of the era, when the design was cleaner to give space to the technical scales (tachymeter and telemeter).
The movement is a caliber 285, one of the finest chronographs ever produced, with a column wheel and a high-level chronograph mechanism.
The structure of Universal Genève references from the era was telling:
6: Indicates the case material (18k gold).
2: Indicates a chronograph.
2: Indicates the caliber (often 285 or derivatives).
376: Indicates the specific case and dial design.
The interior stamps (like the one with the "0.750") confirm the 18-carat gold purity. The interior finish with perlage (the small engraved circles) helped trap micro-drops of oil and prevent wear from dust, a sign of superb craftsmanship.
The 36 mm diameter makes it a so-called "Jumbo" or oversized for the era.
As clearly seen in the photo, the movement finishes are clean and the gears show no obvious signs of oxidation. The inscription "Universal Genève" engraved on the bridge is sharp.
The chronograph starts and resets correctly.
The box is its period-appropriate one (more lived-in than the watch).
Truly unique condition
