Paris, at G. F. Quillau, 1741
New edition revised, corrected and augmented by the author
Complete in 3 volumes bound in full leather of the period
Folio format 41 x 26 cm

An important work of moral theology and canon law written by Abbé Jean Pontas, renowned canon-law jurist and penitentiary of the Church of Paris. This monumental “Dictionary of Cases of Conscience” gathers decisions and reflections relating to the most important difficulties touching Christian morality and ecclesiastical discipline.
The work draws its sources from Scripture, Councils, the Fathers of the Church, papal decretals, as well as the writings of the great theologians and canonists. A true erudite sum of the eighteenth century, it constitutes a remarkable testimony of religious and legal thought under the Ancien Régime.
This Paris edition of 1741 is illustrated with engraved headpieces and printed on fine laid paper. The volumes are bound in an elegant full brown leather binding of the period, adorned with rich gold decorations on the spine with raised bands, and with red morocco title and numbering pieces.
The set appeals for its authenticity and old-world charm, ideal for enthusiasts of religious books, canon law, or antique bibliophily.

Full leather bindings of the period with raised bands
Spines richly decorated with gold tooling

Interior pages fresh with no foxing or damp stains
