Francien Krieg, an original hand-signed oil-on-panel portrait titled “A small place to hide”, in the Impressionist style, created in 2026, 30 × 40 cm, originating from the Netherlands and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
Oil painting on panel
This work is part of my duo auction, in which I bring together several paintings around calm, vulnerability, and the longing to disappear from the world for a moment.
During the auction I post extra studio images on Instagram: details, process moments, paint choices, and small thoughts about the works. For those who enjoy not only seeing the final result but also the search behind it, there is more to follow via @francienkrieg.
I enjoy making portraits of young men and adolescents because there is something special in that life phase: a vulnerability that the world has not yet hardened. Their faces and bodies carry an indefinability within them – they are not fully formed yet, but full of promise and possibilities. It is precisely that in-between moment that interests me: not a child anymore, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what can still become, and the fragile realization that this stage lasts only a short time.
All series – from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset, and intimate scenes with cats – can be found on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motivations: www.francienkrieg.com
I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared linen or smooth panels, and oil paints of top quality, rich in pigment. Each work is made with care and dedication – meant to endure for a long time, not only in material but also in meaning.
