Description from the seller
This evocative bronze piece is a brilliant exercise in historical eclecticism, where the language of mid-20th-century modernism yields to the elegance of the ancient world. The sculpture reinterprets, with stylized sensitivity, the famous figure of the Young Aristocrat of Rhodes, capturing that unique transition between late classicism and Hellenism that so fascinated artists of the interwar and postwar periods.
The work stands out for its serene verticality and an anatomy that, while respecting classical proportions, embraces a softer, more fluid modeling, characteristic of the aesthetics of the 1950s and 60s. The torso, with its barely suggested musculature and almost lyrical smoothness, evokes an idealized youth. The use of the toga, which falls from the left shoulder creating a rhythm of deep, weighty folds, serves as a dynamic counterpoint to the stillness of the bare torso, bestowing upon the figure a timeless dignity.
- Provenance: Private collection in Madrid.
- Measurements: 51 x 13 x 11 cm
- Good condition, with minor wear.
- The artwork will be shipped and packed professionally, and delivered to you in no time.
