Description from the seller
Oil paint on Masonite panel 0.6 cm
This work is part of my duo auction, in which I bring together several paintings around calm, vulnerability, and the longing to sometimes step away from the world.
During the auction I will share extra images from my studio on Instagram: details, process moments, paint choices, and small thoughts about the works. For those who enjoy not only seeing the final result but also the search behind it, there is more to follow at @francienkrieg.
I enjoy painting portraits of young men and adolescents because there is something special visible in that life stage: a vulnerability that has not yet been hardened by the world. Their faces and bodies carry an indefinability within them — they are not fully formed yet, but full of promise and possibilities. To me, it’s precisely that in-between moment: no longer a child, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what can still become and the fragile realization that this stage is short.
All series — from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset, and intimate scenes with cats — can be found on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motivations:

I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared linen or smooth panels, and oil paints of top quality, rich in pigment. Each work is made with care and dedication — meant to last a long time, not only physically but also in meaning.
