About the work

With 黒雪の鳥居 (Kokuyuki no Torii), I wanted to create a “contemporary print”: a winter landscape inspired by ukiyo-e, pierced by a pop-culture icon (Dark Vader) integrated as a character within the print. The composition, the snow as fine punctuation, the atmospheric gradients, and the breath of the sky are a direct homage to Utagawa Hiroshige: this way of making silence exist, then placing a presence in it that changes everything. Here, Dark Vader stands in front of the torii like facing a threshold: still, solemn, almost spiritual. The contrast between the whiteness of the landscape and the black silhouette creates a calm tension, a waiting.

In the top right, the cartouches echo the tradition of the prints:
