Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan offers a vibrant homage to the aesthetics of contemporary development — and notably to the Polish artist Gontek, master of pop de-fragmentation — by applying his language of explosive destruction to traditional Nipponese iconography. This one-off print features an emblematic figure of ancient Japan — a geisha with a face powdered white, ebony hair expertly styled in a traditional bun studded with golden kanzashi — captured at the precise moment when her existence fragments into a thousand shards.
The magic of the composition lies in this violent yet poetic deconstruction. The courtesan’s face, partially revealed in its bony truth, shows a bare skull beneath the cracked skin, while her chest opens into an anatomical thoracic cage betraying the flesh under the costume. Her luxurious kimono — a bubbling canvas of multicolored floral patterns, chrysanthemums, autumn maples and sakura petals on a teal blue and ochre-gold background — literally explodes into geometric fragments that scatter through the air like pieces of broken porcelain. On the right, a white explosion in the shape of a star materializes the zero moment of the blast, projecting detached kanzashi, fabric shreds and sakura petals in a suspended choreography of unsettling beauty.
The impact of the composition is masterfully highlighted by a vivid, solid turquoise background, bold and resolutely pop, which makes the scarlet reds, golds and greens of the kimono burst in an intense chromatic vibration. The strong line and flatness of the colors scrupulously respect the codes of ukiyo-e prints while infusing them with a contemporary graphic vitality. The fusion between the fragmentation aesthetic dear to Gontek, the memento mori dimension inherited from European vanities, and the millennial delicacy of Japanese painting creates a work of rare symbolic power — a meditation on ephemeral beauty, the fragility of appearances, and the permanent coexistence of life and death in the zen philosophy of mono no aware. The traditional vertical cartouche at the top right, housing the artist’s signature in katakana (メドサン), perfects this aesthetic deconstruction.
A conceptual piece, at once aesthetic, disturbing and deeply philosophical, ideal for bringing a pop, graphic, and decisively contemporary touch to a design-forward, avant-garde interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true center of artistic production, the workshop operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive exploration, blending abstract art, naive art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an individual identity for each artist.
