White marble bust titled Buste marbre blanc from Italy, dating to the 20th century, with dimensions 20 × 15 × 13 cm and a weight of 5.5 kg, unsigned and in good condition.
Description from the seller
This splendid solid white marble sculpture presents androgynous features with absolute purity, absorbed in a meditative sleep or deep serenity. A unique work by a 20th-century sculptor, it belongs to the dignified stylistic lineage of non finito, the masterful technique popularized by Michelangelo and later Auguste Rodin, where the completed figure seems to emerge poetically from the rough material.
The face, of remarkable tenderness, benefited from a very finely polished finish. Under direct light, the white marble reveals its natural translucency and a waxy gleam that literally brings the features to life, mimicking the silky texture of skin.
The hair and the back of the block are deliberately left in a rough state. You can see the tool marks of the sculptor (chisel and gradine), providing a textured surface and primitive strength that contrast magnificently with the delicacy of the facial features. The crenated undulations of the hairstyle subtly evoke modernist and Art Deco aesthetics.
This is genuine white marble, noble and heavy, as evidenced by its high density and the discreet amber veins running through the stone, absolute guarantees of its authenticity. Its cabinet-size makes it a perfect collectible object, visually powerful without being bulky, ideal for accenting a library, a contemporary console, or a fireplace.
