Description from the seller
Up for auction a true museum piece of analog high fidelity: the Ortofon T-2000 step-up transformer.
Designed and built in Denmark in 1982, this device is not a mere accessory, but a legendary component created with a single purpose: to make the legendary Ortofon MC 2000 cartridge sing.
Because the MC 2000 had an incredibly low output (0.05 mV), Ortofon had to create an uncompromising, heavy, technically extreme transformer. The result is the T-2000, a “brick” weighing almost 3.5 kg despite its compact size, still regarded today as one of the best SUTs ever made.
1. Silver Windings: Unlike standard copper models, the T-2000 uses pure silver conductors for both the windings and the internal cabling. This guarantees unparallelled detail resolution and an incomparable air on the highs.
2. Extreme Gain (35 dB): With a transformation ratio of about 1:55, it is the only true solution for Low Output MC cartridges such as Ortofon MC2000, Audio Note Io, or Kondo.
3. Toroidal Shielded Construction: Inside there is no air, but a very heavy shielding of permalloy and soft iron that eliminates any hum and interference, bringing the signal-to-noise ratio to excellent levels.
• Technical: Tested and fully functional on both channels. No hiss or abnormal hum.
• Aesthetics: Good overall condition for its age. The black cabinet is solid. The rear RCA connectors (gold-plated) are clean and free of oxidation.
