Description from the seller
A beautiful English pocket watch in 925 sterling silver, late 19th century, weighing 47 grams.
According to the hallmarks, the case was made by the English silversmith (London) Charles Newton in the year 1882.
The watch is a lovely specimen with three closures (outer lid at the back of the case to access the winding and time-setting, inner lid also at the back to access the movement, and a front lid to access the dial).
The watch is working but it gains time relative to the correct time.
Winding and time-setting are done with the same key supplied together with the chain.
The white enamel dial is finely decorated with floral motifs typical of the late 19th century and has a slight enamel crackle visible in the photos, which does not diminish the beauty of the piece.
The 925 silver case is fully chased and is a true masterpiece of silversmith art.
The glass has no cracks or deep scratches, but there are various abrasions due to use (visible especially in backlighting, see the last photo), but overall it is perfectly transparent and allows a clear reading of the time.
The watch is supplied with a beautiful 18 g silver chain not contemporaneous with the watch, made by the Italian silversmith Laso of Arezzo.
The watch is packed with care and insured.
