A Japan-origin ceramic matcha chawan by Shoichi, measuring 9.5 cm high with a 11.5 cm diameter, finished in a dramatic flame glaze and presented in good condition with an original tomobako.
Description from the seller
Item Description
A beautifully crafted matcha chawan (tea ceremony bowl) signed by the artist Shoichi. The bowl is enveloped in a dramatically flowing glaze in deep crimson, amber, and black — a flame-like pattern that cascades diagonally across the body with remarkable dynamism and depth. The interplay of glowing orange-red, deep burgundy, and jet black creates an effect reminiscent of flowing lava or autumn maple leaves caught in wind, making every surface alive with movement and intensity.
The form is classically proportioned for the tea ceremony: a generous, slightly tapered body with a comfortable foot ring (kōdai), smooth rounded lip, and a glazed interior in deep, lustrous black-red — ideal for presenting vivid green matcha. The exterior surface carries a subtle tactile texture beneath the glaze, adding warmth and grip to the hand.
Housed in its original wooden tomobako (presentation box) inscribed with the title "Matcha Chawan" and the artist's signature "Made by Shoichi", this piece arrives as a complete, collectible presentation.
