Description from the seller
Important Victorian Silver Table Mirror in 925 Silver – Deakin & Francis, Birmingham 1901
I am proud to present at auction a masterpiece of late Victorian silverware: History, Prestige and Craftsmanship in a magnificent rectangular table (or wall) mirror, entirely original in every part.
This extraordinary piece bears the marks of the renowned city of Birmingham, dated 1901, stamped by the prestigious silversmiths Deakin & Francis. Founded in 1786, the firm stands as one of the historical exemplars of British craftsmanship, renowned worldwide for the superb quality of its creations and still led by the same family after seven generations.
The majestic frame is made of solid 925 silver, finely worked and hand repoussé. The design is a triumph of ornamental detail typical of the Victorian taste with Art Nouveau/Liberty influences from the early 20th century: a dense, sinuous interlacing of floral motifs, leaves and scrolls. Beautiful and delicate depictions of putti that impart movement and a sense of sanctity to the structure. The Upper Cartouche: At the top center, the frame is topped by an elegant heraldic cartouche that bears testimony to its original commission.
In the center the mirror is housed, characterized by a refined peripheral beveling (molded edge), a detail typical of high-quality display mirrors. The versatility of the piece is exceptional thanks to its substantial dimensions of about 50 x 35 cm: From table use: Supported on the back by its original framework, equipped with a solid tilting easel stand, ideal for embellishing a dressing table or vanity. From wall use: Also prepared to be hung on the wall with the designated hook.
The mark should be Birmingham, year 1901 (hallmarks clearly legible centrally at the bottom). Dimensions: about 50 x 35 cm. Style: Victorian / Late 19th Century – Early 20th Century
The antique silver table mirror presents in good overall condition, absolutely original. The natural patina of the silver and the light marks, signs and abrasions of time certify its authenticity and enhance its historical value. Please view carefully the detailed photo gallery, which forms an integral part of the description.
Given the delicacy and high value of the work, we guarantee an elite shipping service:
Custom packaging: Packaging carried out in the most professional and careful manner possible, using specific materials suitable to isolate the mirror and the silver from shocks and temperature variations. Entrusted exclusively to a well-known express courier, with full tracking service. The lot will be shipped with full insurance coverage for the total purchase value, to ensure maximum peace of mind to the winner of this extraordinary piece.
