Full brown calf leather binding with some small signs of wear at the corners and edges. Lower cap missing; 5 raised bands on the spine, gilded ornaments and title. Red speckled edges, marbled endpapers.

Nicolas Lémery was a French chemist of the 17th century known for his chemical theories on acids, medicines, and his works on drugs and chemistry. Perhaps his best and most important book was his Cours de Chymie. More commonly known as Lessons in Chemistry, this book was the standard textbook for chemistry studies. In this book, Lemery provides methods for preparing chemical substances, medicines, and various physical experiments. Each method includes an explanation and a commentary for correct execution and preparation.
Fold-out plate with the explanation of the main characters used in chemistry before p. 1. 6 handsome fold-out plates with accompanying description from p. 44 to p. 66. Horse drawn and cut out pasted to the last white leaf. Handwritten notes on the first white leaf. Small worm hole in the text and in the plates in the lower part of the first half of the volume. Worm path along the outer margin in the central part of the volume. Faint marginal stain that comes and goes along the volume. Black spots on pp. 708-709. Diffuse though light foxing. Overall a copy in decent condition, nevertheless usable and complete.
