Enchanting Terracotta Sculpture, polychrome, unique piece with gold leaf finishes – "The Azure Wizard" (H 35 cm)
Description of the Work
Up for auction is a fascinating and magnetically engaging terracotta polychrome sculpture titled "The Azure Wizard." This piece stands out for its strong visual impact and deep spiritual charge, skillfully straddling contemporary art and the allure of ancient esotericism.
The standing figure, characterized by a nearly modiglianesque elongated neck, is entirely dominated by an intense, vibrant azure blue, applied with a rich, tactile texture that catches light in a variable way. The face, proud and enigmatic, invites contemplation and seems to guard arcane secrets.
The most cultivated and mysterious aspect of the work lies in its esoteric symbolism:
• On the forehead, set in a golden medallion, stands a geometric seal that evokes illumination and the third eye.
• On the garment, also richly decorated with a polychrome speckled pattern in vivid colors (yellow, red, blue), is positioned a blue plaque. "The striking golden seal imprinted on the garment fuses elements of Neptune’s planetary symbolism (connected to the subconscious and intuition) with the typical structure of alchemical and Solomonian seals. It visually represents the Hermetic concept of the ‘link between the macrocosm and the microcosm,’ defining the spiritual identity of the Wizard himself." A white, elegant collar acts as a boundary between the formality of the face and the vivacity of the robe.
An artwork of great character, perfect for enriching a collection of contemporary sculpture, sacred art, or Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities).
