Il Custode dell’Uovo, an original oil painting by Antonio Sciacca (Italy), from the period 2010–2020, signed and measuring 46 cm by 34 cm.
Description from the seller
In this enigmatic composition, Antonio Sciacca brings together two recurring symbols of transformation: the egg and the chameleon. Resting upon a classical pedestal, the egg becomes an object of suspended potential, while the creature perched above it assumes the role of silent guardian or observer.
The chameleon introduces ideas of adaptation, illusion, and unstable identity. Its curved tail and measured posture create a delicate tension against the perfect stillness of the oval form beneath it. The vivid blue background removes the scene from natural reality, allowing the image to exist within a symbolic and psychological space rather than a literal one.
Sciacca’s work often draws upon the visual traditions of metaphysical painting and allegorical still life. Here, simplicity becomes theatrical. The painting appears almost playful at first glance, yet beneath the clarity of form lies a meditation on mutation, protection, and the fragile boundary between concealment and revelation.
