About
Donald Baechler (1956–2022) was a prominent American artist of the Neo-Expressionist and Post-Pop art movements. He became known for his distinctive paintings, collages and sculptures featuring iconic motifs such as flowers, heads, ice cream, globes, and everyday symbols. After studying at Cooper Union in New York and the Städelschule in Frankfurt, Baechler developed a visual language that combines pop culture, street art, and childlike drawings. His works have been shown internationally and today are held in prestigious collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Whitney Museum, and the Centre Pompidou. Donald Baechler is regarded as one of the defining artists of New York's art scene in the 1980s.
