Description from the seller

CAPTAIN BONES is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado inspired by the classic imagination of maritime tales, the old adventure posters, and the mid-20th century vintage graphic aesthetics.

The work depicts a skeleton captain smoking a pipe while holding the helm of a large sailing ship at sea. Dressed in a navy coat and a red-and-white striped shirt, the character blends dark humor, adventure, and visual theatrics, creating a powerful and cinematic image.

Flavia Delgado blends influences from pop art, pulp illustration, and antique nautical and adventure posters, using bold black lines, flat, intense colors, and a frontal composition with a strong graphic impact. The visual treatment recalls both old illustrated advertisements and classic pirate and explorer novels.

The color palette, based on deep blues, intense reds, blacks, and sand tones, provides an elegant and nostalgic marine atmosphere. The skeleton turned captain conveys a symbolic sense of eternity, voyage, and challenge before the ocean.

CAPTAIN BONES is a work that fuses adventure, irony, and contemporary vintage aesthetics, ideal for personality-filled interiors, creative spaces, or collections inspired by the nautical universe and the classic imagination of the seas.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
