She Doesn't Fit is a mixed media portrait built around a central photographic collage figure — a woman in red sunglasses, flowers in her hair, a crystal necklace applied physically to the canvas surface — surrounded by a world that has been deliberately fragmented. Holographic optical discs were cut by hand into irregular puzzle-piece shapes and arranged around the portrait as both border and background, their iridescent surfaces catching and refracting light across the composition. A hand-painted puzzle pattern in black acrylic runs across the face itself, while stencilled graphic symbols add a further layer of mark-making — language without meaning, or meaning without translation.
The crystal necklace at her throat is not painted. It is real — applied directly to the canvas, three-dimensional, catching light independently of the image beneath it. A decorative brooch earring completes the adornment.
The title is not a complaint. It is a declaration. The woman in this painting does not fit the frame, does not fit the puzzle, does not fit the pattern. The pieces around her are hers — she simply refuses to be assembled by someone else.
