Description from the seller
Hand-finished screen print on Keaykolour Original China White 300 g/m² paper. Screen-printing ink, Quink ink, bleach and acid. Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. Edition of 210 copies plus artist’s proofs. 70 × 50 cm.
Each piece presents unique variations resulting from the chemical burning process with acid and bleach. The work depicts a profile portrait emerging from an eroded surface, combining portraiture, urban gesture and processes of controlled destruction characteristic of Vhils’ visual language.
The Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto, also known as Vhils, has developed a unique visual language based on the removal of the surface layers of walls and other media with non-conventional tools and techniques. With his work he is establishing symbolic reflections on identity, the relationship of interdependence between people and the surrounding environment, and life in contemporary urban societies, as well as the impact of development, the passage of time, and material transformation.
Major artist friends of Banksy from the picture on walls days.
He also owns the Underdog Gallery in Lisboa representing Add Fuel, André Saraiva, Felipe Pantone, JonOne, Nuno Viegas, PichiAvo.
