Chinese porcelain plate, model “Joosje te paard”, decorated in underglaze blue with a horseman in a landscape and bearing a Chenghua six-character mark, from the Kangxi period (1662–1722).
Description from the seller
Chinese porcelain plate – “Joosje te paard”, Kangxi period, ca. 1700
A refined Chinese porcelain plate, dating from the Kangxi period (1662–1722), executed in classic blue-and-white ware with the so-called “Joosje te paard” motif. This beloved theme belongs to the figurative scenes specifically produced for the export market.
The central medallion shows a horseman in a landscape, surrounded by a graceful paternoster border with continuous decorative motifs. The scene is applied with flowing brushstrokes in underglaze blue, creating a lively and harmonious whole.
On the underside the plate bears a Chenghua six-character mark, a rare apocryphal marking from the Kangxi period that refers to a former Ming emperor, and often used on high-quality porcelain.
The combination of figurative decoration, refined painting, and characteristic border makes this plate an attractive example of Chinese export porcelain from the early 18th century.
