Description from the seller
Constant Artz
Born Paris 03-06-1870 - Died 23-02-1951.
The watercolor is hand-made and framed, with the glass removed.
Constant Artz is the painter of the well-known friendly and sunny scenes with a duck and ducklings by a water's edge.
Father Artz had himself studied under Jozef Israëls and, during his Paris period, was little influenced by his new surroundings. He painted mainly Dutch landscapes and Dutch country life.
Constant attended the Hague Academy and then secured a place as a pupil in the studio of the painter Tony Offermans. Offermans was also a typical Hague painter in the style of Israëls. Constant moved in 1893 from The Hague to Delft.
Through his connection with Jozef Israëls, father Artz knew a large number of painters, not the least of whom. He also got along well with Willem Maris and Hendrik Willem Mesdag, who provided him with the necessary advice.
Later Artz moved to Soestdijk. The support of the buying public helped Artz through the difficult crisis years faced by many artists. During the war he managed to support his family by exchanging paintings for food. Artz lived to a fairly old age and he died in 1951 in Soestdijk.
The watercolor is carefully packed and sent by registered mail. The dimensions are inclusive of the frame.
