Luit Dejo ( Luit de Jong)
The Freakshow
Oil on canvas
2003
100 x 150 cm
Unique and nicely framed
Luit de Jong, better known by his artist name “Dejo”, is a Dutch artist known for his colorful and imaginative style. He is connected to the art movement Toyisme, a movement in which artists work under an alter ego and often perform masked to place emphasis entirely on the art rather than on the person behind the work.
Dejo's work stands out for its use of bright colors, playful shapes, and surreal compositions. His art often has a dreamy and symbolic appearance, where fantasy and reality blend into each other. In addition to paintings, he also makes graphic work and silkscreens. His style is recognizable by the combination of humor, detail, and a nearly comic-strip visual language.
With his work Dejo aims not only to visually stimulate, but also to give space to imagination and personal interpretation. Therefore his art appeals to a broad audience and has built up a recognizable own place within Dutch contemporary art.
