Description from the seller
Important original watercolor signed and dated “A. Gorla 1945,” depicting an Italian officer from the final period of World War II, probably belonging to the RSI (Repubblica Sociale Italiana) or to units of the Italian Fascist Militia.
The work is executed in watercolor on thick cardboard and still preserves its elegant vintage passe-partout. The painting stands out for its execution quality, the precision of uniform details, and the strong stage presence of the subject.
Particularly interesting are:
- the shoulder boards
- the decorations and ribbons
- the cap with insignia
- the Iron Cross
- the extremely accurate rendering of the face and the uniform
The painting represents a precious historical-artistic testimony of Italy in 1945, created in the very last year of the conflict, during a period of enormous political and military tension.
The work is not offered with ideological or apologetic purposes, but exclusively as a historical, artistic, and collectible document of the 20th century.
Technique: watercolor on thick cardboard
Signature: A. Gorla
Date: 1945
Overall dimensions with passe-partout: about 29 x 22 cm
Conditions: good overall condition with normal signs of time and a light patina consistent with the era. Original passe-partout present.
A very decorative and evocative work, ideal for collectors of:
- 20th-century art
- military portraiture
- WWII historical documents
- Italian uniformology
- European historical memorabilia
