Description from the seller
André Laclôtre, dit Hellé (1871-1945), was at once a press illustrator, a remarkable creator of wooden toys and of furniture for children’s rooms, a decorator, a painter, sometimes an author and, above all, a illustrator of books for the young. From 1904, his mode of representation, close to a child’s vision, gives his characters the appearance of toys with a crude look that he would use even in his political caricatures. Recognized by Apollinaire and Carco as “one of the precursors of cubism,” he offers here a decisively new work that announces the concern for the readability of the movements of the Russian modernist movements. An eminent librarian could thus testify: “André Hellé was entirely new. With him the modern movement of painting entered the illustration of children’s books.” In 1925, André Hellé resumed the title L’Arche de Noé for Garnier editions and produced a new Art Deco–style version, a collectible work in the traditional format. The album L’Arche de Noé by André Hellé, published in 1926 by Garnier Frères, counts 64 pages. The original edition of the album L’Arche de Noé (sometimes described as a comic strip or an animal alphabet) published by André Hellé in 1926 by Garnier measured approximately 25 x 32 cm.
* Graphical style typical of the 1920s-1930s, very close to Art Deco and the illustrated children’s book.
* Original illustrated cover with the animals climbing into the ark. * worn cover,
* significant rubbing and stains,
* rounded corners,
* worn spine,
Small tears page 13 ,27 and 51
* but illustration still readable and complete.
