Description from the seller
Fascinating and elegant oil-on-canvas still life by the Italian painter Giò di Batte (Giovanni Di Batte). The work stands out for a refined, silent composition, with an almost metaphysical flavor typical of the author's most intimate output.
In the center of the scene, a rough linen sack tied with a red ribbon dominates, behind which a large roll of paper unfolds diagonally. In the foreground, arranged with geometric balance on a support surface, we find a burr walnut pipe, a book with an antique pink cover bearing gilded lettering, a tobacco-tin case with metallic reflections, and two small tokens.
The artist Giò di Batte's mastery emerges in the chromatic contrast: the palette, dominated by warm earth tones and neutral grays, is expertly enlivened by vivid red and pink details, which draw the viewer's eye. The soft light comes from the left, creating delicate shadows that give the objects three-dimensionality and a sense of deep quiet.
