About
Susanne Widl (born 1944) is an Austrian actress, performance artist, photomodel and art collector. She gained international recognition through her works in the environment of the Vienna avant-garde, as well as film and performance projects with artists such as Valie Export and Peter Weibel. In the 1960s and 1970s, Widl worked as a model in New York, Rome and London and appeared on camera alongside Burt Lancaster, Peter Falk and Udo Kier. In addition to her work as an actress, she shaped the Austrian art and cultural scene through experimental performances and her close connection to the Viennese Actionism and media art scene. Since 2000 she has run the legendary Café Korb in Vienna, which to this day is regarded as an important meeting place for artists, writers and intellectuals. Susanne Widl is among the prominent figures of the Austrian postwar avant-garde.
